Astevora Monstera Potting Mix is a ready-to-use, chunky, bark-forward potting mix designed specifically for container-grown Monstera plants. Aged New Zealand pine bark and coarse perlite help maintain larger air spaces around roots, while Canadian sphagnum peat moss and coco coir help retain and distribute moisture between waterings.

Use it straight from the package for repotting, replacing tired growing media, or refreshing the root zone. No additional bark, perlite, peat, or coco coir is required.

Chunky Bark-Based Blend

Built around aged New Zealand pine bark for a coarse, structured root zone.

Fast-Draining, Moisture-Balanced

Combines aeration and drainage with ingredients that hold useful moisture between waterings.

Ready to Use

Pre-blended and ready for repotting with no additional mixing required.

Why Monstera Benefits from a Chunky Potting Mix

Monstera plants develop substantial root systems and are sensitive to the combination of dense media, oversized containers, poor drainage, and overly frequent watering. A coarse potting mix creates larger pore spaces that allow water to move through the container while leaving room for air around the roots.

Astevora Monstera Potting Mix is designed to avoid the heavy, compacted texture common in many general-purpose soils. The blend remains structured while peat moss and coco coir help prevent the root zone from drying as abruptly as a bark-only medium.

What’s in the Mix and Why

Aged New Zealand Pine Bark

Large 12–18 mm bark particles create structure and help maintain air spaces within the root zone.

Coarse Perlite

Adds lightweight mineral particles that support drainage and aeration.

Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss

Helps retain moisture and creates a more even moisture profile between the larger particles.

Coco Coir

Helps hold and redistribute moisture while keeping the blend lighter than dense garden soil.

Compost and Manure Blend

Adds organic matter and naturally occurring nutrients. Ongoing fertilizer needs still depend on plant condition, light, season, and watering.

Ingredients: Aged New Zealand Pine Bark, Coarse Perlite, Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss, Coco Coir, and Compost and Manure Blend.

Best For

Monstera deliciosa
Monstera adansonii
Monstera siltepecana
Variegated Monstera types
Rooted Monstera cuttings
Indoor container growing

This product is formulated and labeled specifically for Monstera. For Philodendron, Pothos, Anthurium, Hoya, or general aroids, choose the corresponding Astevora plant-specific mix.

How to Use

1. Choose a draining container

Use a pot with drainage holes. When moving up in size, choose a container only about 1–2 inches wider than the existing root ball.

2. Loosen the mix

Open the package and gently mix the contents by hand to redistribute the natural components after shipping.

3. Inspect the roots

Remove the plant from its old pot. Gently loosen circling roots and remove only loose, degraded media. Trim dead or soft roots with clean tools if necessary.

4. Repot at the same depth

Position the plant so the base remains at approximately the same level as before. Fill around the root ball without tightly compressing the mix.

5. Water and drain

For a healthy root system, water thoroughly after repotting and allow excess water to drain completely. Empty any water collected in the outer pot or saucer.

Watering After Repotting

Do not water on a fixed calendar. Check the root zone and water when the top 1–2 inches of the mix are dry and the container feels lighter. Water thoroughly, allow complete drainage, and then wait until the mix reaches the appropriate dryness again.

Drying time changes with pot size, light, temperature, humidity, season, root density, and container material. A large decorative pot in low light may remain wet much longer than a smaller nursery pot in brighter conditions.

Which Size Should I Choose?

The estimates below are approximate. Actual use depends on the root-ball size, pot shape, and how much old media is removed.

1 Dry Quart

Best for a small rooted cutting, a 4-inch pot, or topping up a limited amount of settled media.

4 Dry Quarts

Suitable for one typical 6–8 inch repot or several smaller Monstera plants.

8 Dry Quarts

Useful for one larger 8–10 inch repot, depending on the existing root ball and container shape.

15 Dry Quarts

Designed for a large 10–12 inch repot, multiple plants, or keeping extra mix for future soil refreshes.

Natural Product Note

This blend contains natural plant-based and mineral growing-media components. Slight moisture, mild earthy aroma, condensation inside the package, color variation, particle variation, and natural settling during shipping can occur. Gently loosen and redistribute the mix before use.

What to Expect

This mix is designed to create a more open and manageable root-zone structure than dense general-purpose soil. It can help make watering and drainage more predictable when paired with an appropriately sized pot and correct watering practices.

A potting mix cannot prevent root rot or guarantee faster growth by itself. Plant response also depends on root health, light, temperature, watering, humidity, pests, nutrition, and seasonal growth.

Complete the Care Routine

After the plant has recovered from repotting and resumed active growth, consider Astevora 24-8-16 Water-Soluble Foliage Fertilizer. Prepare and apply fertilizer only according to its own product label.

Quick FAQ

Do I need to add perlite or orchid bark?

No. The blend already contains coarse perlite and aged New Zealand pine bark and is ready to use.

Does this mix contain fertilizer?

It contains a compost and manure blend that contributes organic matter and naturally occurring nutrients. It is not a substitute for an ongoing fertilizer program.

Will this potting mix prevent root rot?

No potting mix can guarantee prevention of root rot. This blend supports drainage and aeration, but pot size, drainage holes, root condition, light, and watering frequency remain essential.

Can I use it for Pothos or Philodendron?

This blend may function for some related tropical plants, but it is formulated and labeled for Monstera. Choose the corresponding Astevora plant-specific mix for Pothos, Philodendron, or general aroids.
